cuet: CUET to be conducted in 3 shifts; merger with JEE, NEET to be announced 2 yrs in advance: UGC chief

The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for undergraduate courses is set to be conducted in three shifts this year, instead of the usual two. UGC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar has stated that plans for the merger of CUET with other vital entrance exams like JEE and NEET will be announced at least two years in advance, ensuring that candidates have sufficient time to prepare accordingly. The UGC and NTA are prepared to ensure that the second edition of CUET-UG is more streamlined and free of any glitches, as experienced in the first edition last year. Extra computers and centres have been arranged as a backup plan to shift candidates and prevent cancellation of exams in case of any technical issues.

The CUET-UG was proposed as an alternative to class 12 marks for undergraduate admissions in all central universities. The first edition last year attracted 14.9 lakh registrations, making it the second-largest entrance exam in the country. Efforts have been made to reduce errors in the scores’ normalization process. The deadline for applications this year has been extended until March 30th, with over 11.5 lakh registrations already received.
